The Department is one of the earliest established in China in the field of Management Science and Engineering, and the first in Jiangsu Province to offer both a PhD program and a postdoctoral research station in this discipline. It offers a full range of academic programs, including a postdoctoral research station, doctoral and master’s degrees in Management Science and Engineering, master’s programs in Industrial Engineering and Professional Engineering, and an undergraduate program in Information Management and Information Systems.

In recent years, the Department has developed five main research areas: Information Management and Information Systems; Emergency Management and Financial Engineering; Operations and Supply Chain Management; Knowledge and Technological Innovation Management; and the Theory, Methods, and Applications of Decision-Making under Uncertainty.

Management Science and Engineering at the university has been designated as a key discipline under Jiangsu Province’s Eleventh and Twelfth Five-Year Plans. In the 2007 national discipline ranking, it was placed 15th in China. Faculty members have published research in leading international journals, including Operations Research, ManagementScience, Transportation Science, and Naval Research Logistics.

The Department has received national and provincial recognition for academic excellence. One doctoral dissertation was nominated for the National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award, and several theses have been recognized as outstanding at the provincial level. In addition, three graduates have been awarded funding from the National Science Fund for Outstanding Young Scholars. Graduates of the Department have gone on to hold important positions in universities, government agencies, and industry, where many have become key contributors and leaders in their respective fields.
