The Department of Accounting is one of the earliest established accounting departments in modern China. Its origins can be traced back to the accounting courses offered in the commercial training program at Nanjing Higher Normal School in 1917, the predecessor of Southeast University. Pan Xulun, widely recognized as the “Father of Accounting in China,” once served as Dean of the Department.

The Department currently offers a Master of Accounting (MAcc), a professional Master of Professional Accounting (MPAcc), and an undergraduate program in Accounting. Building on its strong foundation in financial accounting, it has developed distinctive strengths in government accounting, managerial accounting, corporate finance, auditing, and accounting information systems.

Faculty members actively lead research projects that address both academic frontiers and the practical needs of government and industry. The Department follows a teaching philosophy that emphasizes broad knowledge, strong theoretical foundations, and a balanced integration of theory and practice.

It is committed to cultivating high-level, interdisciplinary professionals with solid training in economics, management, accounting, and finance. Graduates possess strong expertise in accounting and financial management, along with the ability to apply their knowledge effectively in practice. They are highly regarded by employers across both the public and private sectors.
