The Department of Logistics Management Engineering has its origins in the Institute of Systems Engineering, established in 1979. The Institute launched a doctoral program in 1993 and a postdoctoral research station in 1995. In 2003, it expanded its academic offerings to include master’s programs in Systems Analysis and Integration, Logistics Engineering, and Project Management, as well as an undergraduate program in Logistics Management. The Department was formally established in the same year. In 2011, it further strengthened its academic capacity by launching a joint PhD program in Statistics.

Supported by major national research initiatives—including key projects under China’s Tenth and Eleventh Five-Year Plans—the Department has developed strong research capabilities in international logistics, procurement logistics, emergency logistics, and hazardous materials logistics. It has also achieved significant academic results in supply chain and logistics management, complex systems analysis and decision-making, system modeling and optimization, information fusion, emergency systems optimization and control, and service science and operations management.

The Department hosts several important research and teaching platforms, including a key logistics research base in Jiangsu Province, as well as logistics research and teaching centers in Suzhou. It has also developed nationally recognized high-quality courses.

Guided by the vision of cultivating talents with a “Chinese perspective and global outlook,” the Department is committed to educating advanced professionals. It has established distinctive strengths in logistics systems engineering, logistics finance, and global procurement management, preparing graduates for leadership roles in academia, industry, and government.
